Your business = income + social help.  ADIs expect a uniform income/lifestyle, or one that's always increasing.  Instead, decide what lifestyle you want, hence need to earn (gross), hence net income, hence hours and rate.  Block-booking is easier for everyone, but justify the discount to your clients.  Consider PAYG pricing.  Avoid an “arms race of discounts”.  Have a regular diary structure.  Operate a holding account to avoid any risk of the DVSA Registrar striking you off, otherwise you may have no buffer from which to refund clients who've prepaid.
